Georgia O'Keeffe New York Art

Georgia O'Keeffe Early Works Collection (Pre 1918)

I decided that if I could paint that flower in a huge scale, you could not ignore its beauty.
 - Georgia O'Keeffe

Between 1915 and 1918 Georgia O'Keeffe was either taking art classes or working as a teacher and during this time she was exploring abstraction as means of self expression. What distinguishes Georgia O'Keeffe and establishes her as one of the most innovative artists of her time is her keen interest in abstraction as an expressive device. Many of her American contemporaries were focusing more on representational artwork at the time.
